Brief Summary:

The Director of Media Relations serves as the College’s official spokesperson and is responsible for elevating the College’s visibility in the media. Works on crisis communications and the development and implementation of proactive media strategies and tactics. Writes timely and well-researched news releases and articles and assists the Assistant VP for College Marketing and Communication with proofing and editing. Prepares news releases, media statements, talking points, briefing materials, Q&As, news articles, and other materials for internal/external audiences. Ensures content and brand message are consistent, timely, and relevant.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary resource of media inquiries and connects college content experts with media opportunities locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • Develops and manages relationships with media and publications to raise Marist’s visibility.
  • Writes feature articles about campus events, academic research, and student and faculty activities and responds to media inquiries, prepare news releases.
  • Manages crisis communications.
  • Serves on the Marketing Communication Group (MCG), the internal committee charged with brand and content management.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Communication or related field preferred. Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant experience required. Must have excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills. Extensive travel required.
